The Register Office is situated at the foot of Lindum Hill below the historic cathedral. Follow signs to the Usher Gallery and Theatre Royal to bring you to Danesgate car parking area and we are opposite the side entrance to the Job Centre.
The Register Office was built in the 19th century as a home for the Bainbridge family and is a magnificent listed building. The waiting room for marriage ceremonies is decorated in medieval carved panelling saved from a house that was demolished at the same time.
The marriage room is tastefully decorated in shades of blue and peach with oak panelling and will seat 30-35 guests. A copy of the Carmichael painting of the city hangs in the marriage room along with original paintings of the city which are on loan from the Usher Art Gallery. Glass doors lead to an attractive and colourful lawned and terraced garden.
